Web Quest Reflection

Well obviously with the definitions that were incorporated into the web quest I learned the meanings of each photographic composition techniques. However, as I went along I also learned how to identify these between images and several at a time. Then, in the process of taking photos I learned how to capture a viewer's attention using these techniques, but also using them in a way that brings creativity to my images. During the time spent doing this project, another thing that I learned is how to frame my pictures in a way that creates importance around the subject.

Color Splash and Still Life

1) It was setup this was to give a cultural feeling with the first image and for the last two it was in a way where the colors would blend together nicely.
2) The lighting was directly placed onto the object which actually came out pretty good as it kind of bounced off onto the others.
3) The adjustments used were hue and saturation change, sharpening of the image, levels, and oil painting,.
4) It could be improved in a lot of ways, but I feel like a background change would do justice because as I was doing the color splash watching the tutorial, the way the flower harmonized with it's background was really good.

Photographer TED Talk

  • What is the most important aspect when creating his work? 3 rules- combine photos should have the same perspective, light, and make it possible to distinguish how the image was composed
  • What do you find interesting about his work? I find it interesting how he combines not just two, but multiple images to make an illusion that displays a seemingly real place. I like the planning that goes into it that allows the viewer to not just appreciate the created image but the dreamlike place that the image allows them to go.

Abstract Blog Assignment

1) My favorite shot is that of the bark simply because the detail it captures looks really nice.
2) I think they all have a really nice use of the elements of art, but I think the flower has a slight edge.
3) My favorite image uses balance, emphasis, proportion, and unity.
4)My favorite image + filter is the flower. This is because in the filter it's a bit distorted making it look like the camera was sprayed with water giving a spring vibe.

Exploring Landscapes

1) I did use rule of thirds to emphasize the land.
2) I used balance to weigh out the surrounding objects of the water. I used emphasis putting the important objects in the middle. Harmony was another principle used as they objects off to the sides are very complimentary to the landscape picture. Theres also some proportionality as the trees in the background cover the same area as the water and land in front of it.
3) The image was taken in the afternoon which was a very good time as the sun was able to successfully create a reflection in the water and sheds nice light onto the landscape. The positioning also helps as the the sun creates a shadow in the background instead o the front where it can be visibly seen.
4) The foreground background relationship was basically used to create a double image, one being the reflection in the water and then a beautiful background that compliments the foreground with color and contrast.

Burned Edge

Channel Mixer

Gradient Map

Desaturation Method

Lab Color

1) I think the gradient map does because i feel liked it has the best contrast between black and white.
2) There wasn't that big of a value range for each. The gradient map worked the best which can comparatively be seen in the water as it shows the least bit of trees.

Photographs of Landscape

1) Using the macro lens was hard at first because the pictures were coming out blurry and we had trouble getting the camera to focus.

2) My favorite shot is the one of the dirt. I really like the variety of colors and the way the edges are blurred so it makes the viewer able to see the point of emphasis clearly.

3) The shot of the flower shows the best use of rule of thirds.

4) My favorite shot uses emphasis, movement, and variety

Cinemagraph

1) The concept was basically a person having fun blowing bubbles which came out pretty good.
2) I was more involved in the photographic (recording the video) and technical portion (creating the cinemagraph).
3) I would've used my time more efficiently
4) A lack of messing around would've made this project easier.
5) The dynamic was great. Everyone played a fair part in this project

Shooting Water

With flash questions: 1) While we were trying to get the shot it was amazingly difficult to focus the camera.
2) I liked how the we were able to balance the lighting

Without flash questions: 1) It was hard to get the exact point of where the water dropped along with the timing of the shot.
2) I liked the way the color reflected on the water.

Water drops with burst mode: 1) Using the burst helped out a lot because it was able to capture each frame with precision.
2) I liked the ease at which we were able to get the pictures
Colored water drops with burst mode: 1) Just like the last one the burst helped out a lot and the color gave a clear view of the drop.
2) I liked how the color drops looked when they hit the water.

Broaden Your View

1) Exploring what it feels like to be in that moment, incorporating creative use of lighting, and spacial consideration to build a nice connection within the image makes for good adventure photography.

2) Some things that I could photograph that'd fall under this category of photography would be local sporting games, kids at a playground, or even just people doing everyday activities at local shops or food places.

Making Great Pictures

1) An interesting subject
2) Light, composition, and something interesting.
